Dubai has a tropical desert climate, due to its location within the northern desert belt. The summers are extremely hot and humid, with an average temperature around 41°C (106°F) during the day and at night around 31°C (88°F).
Most days are sunny all year round. The winters are warm and short with an average temperature of 26°C (79°F) and in the night of 17°C (63°F). However, rainfall has increased in recent decades, with the accumulated rain reaching 150 mm per year.
The weather in Dubai can cause short and irregular rain showers, as it is typical in the Middle East. The majority of rainfall occurs in the period from December to March. The weather between December and March remains warm and is considered to be the most comfortable climatic conditions of the year.

The feeling temperature can rise above 50°C (122°F) in the summer. Hence a visit to Dubai in the summer is not advisable. Hotel bookings will therefor also be cheaper in the summertime than in wintertime.

During the summer season a low-pressure area develops above Dubai, forcing strong northwest winds to blow from Saudi Arabia. These winds, also known as Shamal (north) in Arabic, are quick and unpredictable when they reach Dubai. Shamal raises desert sand and reduces visibility and the sandstorm can last for several days.
The best time to visit Dubai is from December to February, to avoid the heat that dominates many months a year.
During the summer the heat is so intense that it can be uncomfortable to even lie under an umbrella. It is usually possible to sunbathe in the winter, except in the coolest days. In April some days are acceptable, at other times the temperature can already rise to 40°C (104°F).
Fortunately, public buildings and shopping centers such as The Dubai Mall are equipped with air conditioning.
