Design of the Canadian pavilion

The contract for the design, build and operation of the Canada Pavilion and Public Presentation at Expo 2020 Dubai was awarded to EllisDon Construction Ltd.

The design of the Canada Pavilion draws inspiration from a number of sources, not unlike the multi-faceted form of the Canadian identity. Celebrating Canada’s diversity, the use of geometric lattice is an international cultural reference to the Mashrabiya, an element of Arabic architecture. The wooden structure is also an architectural reproduction of the great Canadian landscapes.

Inspired by the drum, an instrument of choice for performance and storytelling around the world, the Canada Pavilion is a symbolic representation of collaboration between countries. The circle shape of the pavilion is a universal symbol of unity, evoking the relationships humans have between each other and with the land.

The gross building area of the Canada Pavilion is 1370 square meters. The pavilion is composed of three main areas: the public presentation, the business area, and an administrative and support area.

Visitor experience

The Canada Pavilion will offer visitors to the pavilion a 360-degree theatre experience allowing guests to embark on an immersive journey through Canada’s past, present and future. Prior to the theatre, visitors will be engaged in a preshow experience with light and sound.
